Exam Success Tips #2 - Master Your Memory

Hello ,

Would you like to have a better memory?

Would you like to be able to memorize anything
more quickly and easily?

Today - You're going to learn how.

--------------------------------------------------
EXAM SUCCESS TIPS # 2
--------------------------------------------------

Twelve years ago I saw an advert for a memory
course in a newspaper.

The advert said that by studying the course,
I would be able to remember anything more easily.

That advert changed my life.

It made me realise that I should spend some of
my time learning how to learn really well.

It made so much sense - the better I became at
learning, the more I would be able to learn in less
time.

I sent off for the memory course, and tried some
of the techniques for remembering peoples names....

They worked!

I was hooked...

Since then, I've read hundreds of books, watched
loads of videos, listened to hundreds of audio cd's
and tapes and flown around the World to study
with some of the people who knew the most
about learning on the planet.

Today I'm going to share some of the things I've
learned about how to harness the power of
imagination to concentrate better and master your
memory.

Before we begin, it's worth practicing your state
of calm confident curiosity.... that will make
learning how to learn work better for you!

--------------------------------------------------
Principle 1 - Your Brain Likes Stimulation
--------------------------------------------------

When it comes to learning, your mind loves
stimulation.

Most people can easily remember what happened
in their favourite TV Show or Movie. Many people
even have photographic or movie like recollections
of seeing their favourite stars act or perform.
Yet these same people can't always remember what
they learned in class.

The reason for this is simple, when things are
stimulating, you can remember them more easily.

Think about it - if you saw a red car on the road
today, you probably wouldn't remember it. But if
you saw a 200ft high rabbit sticking out of a
roof of a house, you'd remember it easily, even
next week.

If you want to remember something more easily,
the first step is to bring it to life in your
imagination.

Find an exciting, stimulating way of thinking
about what you are studying. Make what you
are studying into a movie in your mind that
you experience.

For example, if you are doing history, and you
are studying a battle... instead of making vague
notes about what happened, go on a journey in your
imagination and imagine that you are actually
there at the battle. See everything that
happened... Imagine that you are the commander
of an army or a captain of a boat.

Then when you remember it when you need to,
imagine being back in the battle and see what
happened.

Make what you study fun and exciting in your
imagination.

It will help you remember.

--------------------------------------------------
Principle 2 - Make Smart Notes
--------------------------------------------------

So many people sit in classes or lectures trying
to write down everything their teacher or lecturer
says. They race to keep up ....

Instead of concentrating on the information, these
people devote lots of their concentration on the
process of writing it all down.

Some smart students do it differently:
- They concentrate on what they are learning
- They make much simpler notes, capturing the
essence and important facts of what is being taught
- They bring the subject to life as they learn
and focus on remembering what is most important

As you begin to use your memory more effectively,
you can write less down and remember more.

Practice writing down only the essence of what's
important.

Practice making diagrams of understandings
instead of writing many paragraphs.

Find a good way of doing this that works for you.

--------------------------------------------------
Principle 3 - Smart Timing and Repetition
--------------------------------------------------

The purpose of studying is not to have perfect
notes.

Instead, wouldn't you like to be able to recall
and use what you've studied in your mind,
whenever you need to?

There is an easy way to do this:

1) Study something + understand it clearly.
Bring it to life, using your imagination, as
you study.

2) Make smart notes, capturing the essence
of what you've studied. These notes should
remind you of what you clearly understand.

3) *Review* your notes regularly, and as you
do, bring to mind what you've learned, remind
yourself of what you studied.

A really good way to do this is:

- Review your notes after an hour, and bring to
mind what you've learned.

(As you do this, if you need to, go over anything
you want to understand more fully or would like
to recall even more clearly)

- Review your notes at the end of the day and
bring to mind what you've learned.

- Review your notes at the end of the next day
and bring to mind what you've learned.

- Review your notes after a week, and bring to
mind what you've learned.

Review your notes periodically, and bring to
mind what you've learned. For example, the
night before or the morning before the exam.

By doing this, you're practicing making what
you study memorable *and* practicing remembering
until you get it right.

As you do this, and discover remembering is
getting easier for you, you may also notice
your confidence is growing.

--------------------------------------------------
TODAYS EXAM SECRET
--------------------------------------------------

I heard a famous expert of learning describe how
the moment most lecturers learn something
really well is just before they have to teach
it to someone else.

When you teach something to someone else, you
have to understand it fully and clearly enough
that you can express it to someone else so they
can learn it too.

Doing well in Exams isn't just about learning
what you are studying well, it's also about
expressing what you know clearly enough that the
person marking the exam can fully appreciate your
knowledge.

Take the opportunity to teach your friends and
the people around you some of what you've studied.

Set yourself a challenge to teach other people
things that you are learning.

Afterwards you'll know the subject even better,
and you'll probably find the subject more
interesting (especially if you find a fun way
to teach it).

Congratulations

As you apply these principles in your studying,
you'll discover learning can be more fun and
quicker.
